Title: MIA for a while
Post by: AmIevL on December 13, 2008, 01:36:01 am
Just wanted to let you all know, that I have been gone the past week. I hope to be back in a week or 2.
My subscription was about to run out, was having problems getting my stuff from a failed jump to LSC and then... my PC started going screwy. I found out I got friggen "Vundo" virus/trojan on my computer and while messing with it I decided to not re-up my subscription.
still having trouble clearing it. I can get rid of the files but the registry entries WILL NOT clear. I delete them and they come right back. If I cant sort it out, Ima reinstall windows and everything.  ticked
If anyone knows of a good way to kill vundo reg entries, and keep them dead, PLEASE for the love of god reply. I really dont want to reinstall again as I Just set this pc up a few weeks ago.
Anyway... hope to see ya ingame soon

Thanx for the reply. I had already been trying that tho. I think it would work for most cases. It would get rid of the .dll files and such, and it would find the reg entries. It couldnt actually clear the reg tho.
It also found the entries in my System volume... which I think it could not delete, and then that entry would reload my registry.
Sad thing is none of that matters now. I believe it infected my boot record and  Screwed my partitions and all. It has all ended up with me reseting windows to an IDE drive and now I am waiting for data recovery tools to hopefully find and save ALOT of stuff including family pictures   ticked
(going on day 3 of data recovry I think now)
It is my own fault for feeling over secure and not properly backing my files up.
No matter how bullet-proof I thought I had my system setup, I forgot the biggest hole in my defences... a Wife and 2 kids who use the PC  :(
...and they are the ones that act mad cause the stuff might be gone  LOL

Hey all...
Just thought I would give an update.
I hope to be back ingame by the 15th
I managed to save most of my data, at least the important stuff
I think it was a total of 9 or 10 days doing recovery. It took nearly 2 days just for the software to scan the drives and find the files. Then I would start recovering stuff, and Crash... it would error and lock up. Then I had to start it all over again. So FRUSTRATING but it was worth it.

Anyway, the holidays have sucked the bank account dry, so I am waiting for a lil' extra cash so I can re-up my subsription.
Hope to see ya soon o/

Heheh Filz.  I got the same.  Definitely no known cure.  The good news is she is cool with me playing more Eve than I thought she would be.
